In this blog, we’ll address two frequently asked questions related to the Diversity Visa (DV) process.
Question 1: Is it necessary to send an inquiry email to KCC to receive the 2NL (Second Notification Letter)?
Clear Answer: NO.
Typically, Second Notification Letters (2NLs) are sent to DV selectees based on the monthly updates of the Visa Bulletin, not on the basis of any inquiry emails. So, sending an email to the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) does not influence when or whether you receive your 2NL.
There is no harm in sending an inquiry if you want to, especially if your case number is current and you haven’t received the 2NL yet. But be clear: receiving your 2NL after sending an inquiry email is coincidental, not a result of the inquiry. If you have time and curiosity, feel free to email KCC. Otherwise, focus on your daily routine and wait for your turn as per the Visa Bulletin schedule.
Question 2: Why does the Consular Office ask some applicants to submit documents before the interview date?
This doesn’t apply to all DV winners. Normally, after receiving your 2NL with the interview date, your next step is to schedule a medical checkup. On the day of the interview, you appear at the consular office with your medical report and the required original documents.
However, in some cases—especially when the consular office identifies the need for further administrative processing or background checks, and if time is limited before the end of the fiscal year (September 30), they may ask you to submit your documents before the scheduled interview date. This helps them assess your eligibility in advance and avoid delays or disqualification due to time constraints.
So, even after receiving your 2NL, keep checking your email regularly, as the consular office may contact you with additional instructions regarding early document submission.
Final Tip:
Patience and attentiveness are essential during the DV process. Stay informed, follow official instructions, and avoid relying on rumors or unverified claims circulating in online forums.
