After submission of the DS-260 form, each DV applicant must check regular the visa bulletin update. The Visa Bulletin is a monthly update released by the U.S. Department of State that provides information on the availability of immigrant visa numbers for various categories of immigration, including the Diversity Visa (DV) program. It is update generally in second week of each month.
For DV winners, the Visa Bulletin will show whether their case is "current" or "not current." If a case is current, it means that a visa number is available and the applicant is eligible to apply for an immigrant visa or adjustment of status. If a case is not current, it means that a visa number is not available yet, and the applicant will have to wait until their case becomes current before they can proceed with their application.
When the Visa Bulletin shows that a DV case is current, it means that the applicant's priority date is earlier than the cutoff date listed in the bulletin for their region and preference category. The priority date is the date when the applicant's application was received by the U.S. government. If the priority date is earlier than the cutoff date listed in the Visa Bulletin, the applicant can proceed with their application.
It's important to note that the availability of visa numbers can vary each month, and the cutoff dates can move forward or backward depending on the demand for visas and the number of visas available. Therefore, DV winners should regularly check the Visa Bulletin to stay informed about the availability of visa numbers and the status of their case.
Concerning to the DV winner, let's take an example from the below photo:
In the above photo, we can see the visa bulletin update for March 2023 and Nepal 8025 means, whoever have the DV case number under 8025, they are likely to get their 2NL as soon as possible and eligible for interview within the end of March 2023. It is just example, sometimes due to the internal/external situation and prioritization of consular offices the accuracy of getting 2NL and getting opportunity for the interview might be vary.
Generally Visa Bulletin update of August of each year is remarkable update for the DV winners of the following year. To understand clearly, if you are DV winner for the fiscal year 2024, you case number contains the year 2024. Then the you must concern the visa bulletin update onwards the August 2023. Because for the DV2024 winners, they are likely to get interview appointment onwards the October 2023. Remember that the fiscal year for DV processing starts from the October of current year to end of September of the following year. It mean, if you are a DV winner for the year 2024, your fiscal year of processing is 1st October 2023 to 30th September 2024. After the end of fiscal year, you will not granted for the visa. Almost it is end of everything for the DV winners, if they do not get their visa within the fiscal year.
