Full instructions to fill up DS-260 form for DV process | What information is required for DS-260 form?


In the previous article, there was a preliminary discussion about the 3 steps that participants should take after being selected in the DV lottery. I hope you have read the article, if you have not, I would like to suggest reading through this link. Are you a DV winner? So what are the first steps of DV process?  

Today, we will discuss in detail, how do we fill out the DS-260 form and what information is required for it before submitting to KCC? 

What is asked in the DS-260 form and what information do you need to prepare?
Generally, there are 7 types of question groups asked for DS-260 form, they are:

1.    Personal, Address and Phone Information,

2.    Family Information,

3.    Previous U.S Travel Information,

4.    Work Education, Training Information,

5.    Security and Background Information,

6.    Social Security Number Information,

7.    Preparer of Application,

We will now examine these questions in detail.

1. What kinds of questions asked in Personal, Address and Phone Information section?

  • Your name, gender, date of birth, place of birth, type and number of identity card (i.e Passport type and ID number), date of issue and expiry date of identity card (Passport),
  • Did you get citizenship of another country before this?
  • Current address, and where have you lived in the past years? According to the timeline of the month, the month and year should be mentioned,
  • Whether or not you use your mobile number, email id, and social network (Facebook, Twitter etc),
  • All information about your sponsor, sponsor's address, email and contact number.
2. What kinds of questions asked in Family Information section?

  • About the name of your mother and father, their date of birth, place of birth and whether or not he/she is still alive,
  • If the parents have died, the date of death is asked,
  • Details of your spouse - name, date of birth, place of birth, etc.
  • Marital status, date and place of marriage, whether you were previously married or divorced.
  • Do you have children ? If so, the full details of the son and daughter are asked.
3. What kinds of questions asked in Previous U.S Travel Information section?

  • Have you ever been to the United States before?
  • Have you been issued a visa to the United States before?
  • Was your visa to the United States previously revoked for any reason?
4. What kinds of questions asked in Work Education, Training Information section?

  • Where do you work now Name of the working organization, address, date of commencement of employment, working position etc.,
  • Where and in what organizations did you work before and under whose supervision did you work? What is the name of your supervisor?
  • Do you need 2 years or more of work experience for the job you are doing? is asked,
  • From where did you pass your SLC and grade 12, and from which educational institution? School and college name and address,
  • Year of school and college you studied and date of graduation etc.
  • Have you ever served in the military?
  • What is the best city for your DV interview?
5. What kinds of questions asked in Security and Background Information Section?

This section asks the most questions. It is not possible to mention all the questions here, so the points that reflect the summary of those questions are presented below;

  • Do you have any chronic (long term) illness?
  • Have you been vaccinated as prescribed by US law?
  • Do you have any kind of physical or mental weakness?
  • Are you a drug addict?
  • Have you been arrested for any crime? Or have you been involved in criminal activity?
  • Are you a child of a parent who involved in a crime?
  • Have you ever been to the United States for a crime or prostitution?
  • Were you involved in similar social violence, human rights and child rights abuses? Have you ever participated in criminal activities such as cheating, robbery, theft, human trafficking? Such questions are asked.
  • Do you have links to any terrorist group?
  • How is your political life ? Are you communist or is it Congress?
  • Many other similar security-related questions are covered in this section.

6. What kinds of questions asked in Social Security Number Information section?

  • Have you ever applied for Social Security card?
  • Do you want to get a social security card from the Department of Social Security?
  • Do you allow the US Department of Social Security to provide your Social Security number?

7. What kinds of questions asked in Preparer of Application section?

The only question asked in this section is:

  • Did anyone help you fill out this form? Of course, you have to answer, "No, I'm did it myself."
How get DS-260 online form and how to submit it?
  • There comes a place to enter your DV case number. Enter your DV case number, and the DS-260 form will open.
  • Then carefully answer the questions asked or fill out the information form.
  • After answering all the questions, finally submit the DS-260 form. If the DS-260 form is submitted correctly, you will receive a confirmation paper. Print the paper and keep it safe.
  • The confirmation paper, the rest of the process and the time of the interview will be needed.

What are the most important things to consider when filling out a DS-260 form?
  • This is the first process or step for the DV program and if you do not complete it properly, you will not be able to proceed with the rest of the process. So be very careful to fill out the form before submit it.
  • Do not hesitate to provide accurate information. Do not fill the information other than the documents you have. Instead, take the time and arrange the necessary documents to fill the DS-260 form accordingly. Don't get hurry.
  • Important documents: repeatedly check the information on birth certificate, citizenship, passport, work experience certificate, educational certificates, make sure that the information in all of them match each other.
  • Especially check the date and place information. Be clear about the date and place you went to college, work, or study. List accurate information about the colleges or schools you have studied.
  • Especially if you have a spouse or children, you need to be extra careful. Remember, all family members have to fill out a separate DS-260 form for each, but the case number will be the same for everyone.
  • Citizenship, passport and educational documents may be in hand, but the rest of the documents should be prepared in time. How many people do not have a birth certificate, in such a case, the documents of the birth certificate have to be prepared by the concerned body. If you have not taken work experience certificates, you should take them, in which you have to be very careful about the dates.
  • Keep all family documents together, including parents. In case of death of the parents, please get the death certificate.
  • If you do not have a marriage registration certificate yet, get it now. Even if you got married after completing the DV lottery form, get a marriage certificate immediately.
  • When filling out the online DS-260 form, check your internet connection carefully. While filling out the form, do not refresh the page, don't click on next or back the page unnecessarily.

Within 1 to 2 months of completing the DS-260 form correctly, an email will be sent from KCC for additional required documents. Some people think this email a second letter (2NL Letter), but it's not a second letter. DV2021 Case Processing update of Nepal (Up to 5 September 2021)

The fiscal year of the DV 2021 visa issuance process is coming to an end on September 30. In this context, there are clear indications that not even 60% of the DV 2021 visas will be issued through the regular process, which is a matter of concern for the winners of DV 2021. As you may know, the US government court has not been able to give a promising verdict in favor of any of the DV 2021 lawsuit proceedings. In this sense, there is a question mark over the possibility of getting a visa for those who spend a lot of money to participate in the lawsuits. In the year 2021, 3801 Nepalis were selected for the DV lottery program, which is the second-highest number of DV winning country in Asia. According to the DV Lottery Charts' data published on 1st September, 31% of the winners have so far received visas, with 531 receiving visas and 522 being interviewed. The details are briefly presented in the table below. Total DV Winners   3801
